Fab Foliage Friday
This compelling trio of woodlanders shows just how many colors green can encompass, from the greeny green of the hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens), to the burgundy-flushed green of purple wood spurge (Euphorbia amygdaloides 'Purpurea'), and on to the multi-colored foliage of Japanese painted fern (Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum'). Varied shapes and textures add punch to this combination. Photo taken at Joe Keller's Garden of Ideas, in Ridgefield, CT.

What a gorgeous combination of plants. Japanese painted ferns are some of my favorites, and that Euphorbia is stunning.
Hey Aerie-el--Oh yeah, that euphorb is a goodie. Evergreen, and it looks different in all seasons. I love those painted ferns too.
That is one beautiful trio of foliage ! I am a huge fan of Japanese painted ferns .. have quite a few .. but this is a stunning group : )
Wonderful foliage. What a combination of colors! Looks so perfect, Steve. I've never like just-foliage-without flowers, but after looking at your photos I've changed my likes about them. I guess it's the way that you arrange them that makes them attractive.
Steve,
You have one of the most beautiful and artistic blogs I have ever seen, anywhere.
Beautiful grouping with a lushness that is stellar! A great inspiration as I think about the new garden spaces I've cleared out in my wayback! Thank you and happiest of holiday weeks! gail
Hi GJ4M--It's a great combo that keeps its looks all season long. Can't beat that!
Chandramouli--You hit the nail on the head, as they say. Yes, it's all about how you place the plants that makes a garden interesting. I think step one in gardening is learning how to grow what you like, step two is taking those plants and learning how to combine them in pleasing ways.
Gee thanks Philip. I'm trying...
Hi Gail--I've been reading about your out in the way back, and this is the kind of combo that should feel right at home there.
